Saltwater Taffy Quilt top

 Saltwater Taffy Quilt - corner
Jennifer and I were able to get together this week and do some sewing together, so I finished up adding the borders on this quilt top! I just love how it's turning out!

Saltwater Taffy Quilt - aliens
My oldest son (who this quilt is for) asked the other night who I was making it for. I told him it was a gift and then I asked him if he were to have a quilt, what would it be like? He said it would have aliens on it! really? uuuuhh... ok. Little does he know, that his mama actually has fabric with aliens on it! I don't think it could have fit in any better. The orange is almost the same color, so I added a bit of it in the outside border. Ack! Hopefully, now he will really like the quilt. :)

Saltwater Taffy Quilt - progress
I was really careful when handling the pieces of the quilt, because most of the edges are cut on the bias and can stretch easily. I also spray starched all the fabrics and starch is now my new best sewing friend! How did I go so long without it?!
Hope you have a great weekend!

That's awesome. Love how the light is shining through it and how each "star" can be seen from multiple view points.

So Fantastic! Looks amazing. I actually LOVE the aliens on it! It made me laugh even before I read that it was for your son and he requested aliens. I might start adding one relatively hidden funny block to all my quilts! Too fantastic.

This pattern is one of those that I instantly fell in love with when I saw it. Then I looked over the directions and decided that this will be a "someday when I have more time" quilt pattern to look forward to. I love the bright colors you've used!

Hi, just came across your blog. I'm also working on this quilt pattern but am using Hope by Howard Marcus. I have the inside squares done and now need to make my edges. I've been a little nervous about the bias edges. Yours has turned out beautifully! Are you going to quilt it yourself? Hope you post pictures when your done!

What fabric did you use?

Love the sneaky aliens! And good idea on the starch for bias cut blocks - I'm just about to start a different pattern with a lot of bias cut blocks, and I must remember that.

I really like the way it turned out. Great job! The aliens are really fab too as when he gets older and doesn't really like aliens anymore they will just be a little reminder.

This reminds me that my son also has requested a quilt. Hm, I think that was 2 yrs ago!

What is the alien fabric? It would be a big hit here.
