In searching for a dress pattern to make my little girl the other day, I ran across this super cute pattern for a girls coat called Uptown Girl - have you seen it before? (check out the Make it Perfect Blog/website for more info and more cute patterns). Never did find a dress pattern, but I thought this coat was simply adorable so I ordered the pattern and had the opportunity to make two of them this past weekend- one for my niece for her birthday and one for my girl.
It is such an adorable spring coat and quite easy to make. Here are few pictures of it - you'll notice it is completely reversible too! Now we just need the snow to all melt and for it to get a bit warmer outside so she can wear it.
By the way, does anyone have any recommendations for any super cute dress patterns for little girls? I have a couple already (by Sandi Henderson) but was looking for something a little different- maybe there is a pattern that you really like and have enjoyed making? If you would be kind enough to share your favorite, leave me a comment, as I would love to check some different ones out. Thanks so much and take care! - Jennifer

Have you seen this pattern from Patty Young - http://modkidboutique.com/Kyoko.html. I love her stuff. She has such unique little girl clothing.
such a cute jacket, it looks really well made..was is hard? I have this pattern from little lizard king, http://www.etsy.com/listing/62534591/the-brooke-dress-or-shirt-sewing-pattern I'm in the process of making my little one with cap sleeves for the summer, it's turing out really cute!
It's adorable! Was it difficult to make? I can sew a dress but a jacket sounds a little scary...
Jennifer :)
Google Patty Young of Mod Kids she has great unique patterns along with an amazing fabric line. I follow her blog I am just not sure of her website off the top of my head. I made her Kimono dress for three little girls. It was easy and so pretty
I always find cute things at Prudent Baby. I have made the shirt in this link as a dress just by adjusting the length. They have other great free patterns as well.

This so cute. I love how it turned out. It makes me want to sew a couple for my girls.
Hi Jessica; I know this is off topic, however I seen this post and thought of you. I know how much you love Paula Deen. http://freshvintage.typepad.com/freshvintage/
Love the coat - I am going to try it! Here's a dress pattern I just ordered - I saw the sample in a store and it's adorable:

That is such a cute little jacket. Love the fabrics you chose! How about a pillowcase dress? I think I am going to make one for my special little grandbaby, Chloe.
Those jackets are adorable! Pink Fig has cute patterns - I've made a few of them - some of them have shirred bodices - super cute!
Aww these coats are so cute! I don't sew clothing but as a couple of others have already said Patty Young's stuff tends to be cute. Hope you find the perfect dress pattern!
I just discovered Monkeys Bug on etsy. Check them out and also, McCall's 5835. i love the scoop on the front instead of joining the skirt with a straight seam. so sweet. You'll see what I mean.
I did an interesting bodice for a dress when G was 3 - box pleated the bodice front, then used buillion embroidery stitches to pull the pleat edges together. This made little openings in which I embroidered roses and daisies. The gathered skirt was a floral with roses and daisies. I'll see if I can find a pic and email you. Sorry it wasn't really a pattern, just a basic set-in sleeve dress. You could probably wing it. :)
Love it! Did it go together relatively easily? I bought the pattern and all the fabric for it but unfortunately it's all sitting on my desk in California waiting for me to pick it up.
eeek, I have that pattern. Still have yet to make one though how eay did it come together? I love your color choices it looks flawless!
Have you tried and of the Oliver & S patterns? Well written and so cute.
I love this pattern! I made my daughter a spring jacket here:

and a winter jacket here:

And just today I blogged about the Oliver + S bubble dress: http://thegirlwhoquilts.blogspot.com/2011/03/match-made-in-heaven.html
It was my first time using one of her patterns, and I really liked it. I would recommend them, and they are all adorable. I'm especially smitten with the school photo dress!
Have you been to youcanmakethis.com They have a ton of great patterns for dresses and skirts for little girls and even some for us big girls! I usually start there first because they're all pdf downloads so I can start right away and I've liked every pattern I've ever bought from there. Just my two cents...
Hi Jennifer,
Love your daughter's coat! I bought the lazy day hat pattern from the same company a while back but still haven't made it yet...on the to do list for this summer:)
I love the Modkid patterns by Patty Young-they are cute, fairly easy & excellent instructions. A great summery dress is Isabel-I think I've made it 5-6 times.
I also love the sunny scallop dress by Jona Giam???. Find her at Stop Staring & Start Sewing
I love this coat, I think that I could do it for my little boy. I've done a dress for my niece, here you have the link http://capsetademusica.blogspot.com/2011/03/watermelon-dress.html. Hope you like it.
How precious!
I bought this pattern last year, before my daughter was even born! It is so lovely, and I love your fabric choices! I hope that the pattern was easy - with a baby in the house, I don't have the concentration span I used to.
No little girls for me, so no recommendations, but these are the SWEETEST! Love the little baby cheeks, too! Cyber-kisses to the model.
Super cute!
Oh, I could recommend lots of cute ones! I love, love the Ice Cream Dress by Oliver and S.
Take a look at Olabelhe for dress patterns. They are simply adorable.
Hi everyone-
Thank you so much for your recommendations and comments! I look forward to checking them out and I'm sure I'll find one or two that will be perfect. Looks like now I can make two little girl dresses since we had our baby girl a couple days ago - so much fun to have 2 sweet little ones to make things for :) Oh, and I thought the pattern was pretty easy to make - it took me about 6-7 hours all together to make it, but it was not that hard, just took a while but definitely worth the time! Thanks so much again! - Jennifer
